Stay on Track during the Holidays

If you want to stay on track during the holidays there are some things you can do.

Everyone tends to slow down during the holidays. Workouts may become less routine as the holiday parties start filling your already busy schedule. However, there are some things you can do to stay on track during the holidays.

Forget about the Food-Never make food the center of attention, obsession, or focus. Focus on what the holidays are about. Show gratitude and mingle at the staff Christmas party. You’d be surprised how great you will feel when you stay away from the buffet and concentrate on the people who are attending the party. Live like you normally do and don’t over indulge on cakes, cookies, pies or any other food that you might want to overeat during the holidays.

Drink-Up-Okay, it’s water we’re talking about here. Keep alcohol to a minimum, even though it may be hard not to have another glass of wine. Alcohol is dehydrating and can leave you feeling tired. Drink lots of water, at least eight glasses, and swap between a cocktail and a glass of water during the party. That hangover you had last year doesn’t have to occur if you drink plenty of water and keep your alcohol intake to a minimum.

Relax-Stop stressing about the holidays and relax if you want to stay on track during the holidays. Head to the gym for a Yoga class or take a relaxing hike. Exercise can help eliminate stress and help you enjoy yourself. Remember, even if you did overindulge at the party the night before, you can still get back on track before breakfast the next day.

Eat your Veggies-If you want to stay on track during the holidays load your plate up with lots of carrots, celery, broccoli and snap peas. Those button mushrooms are digestible, loaded with protein and far better for you than a handful of chips. Veggies are loaded with water and will make you feel full, and, they taste amazing anyway they are prepared.

Enjoy the Moments-Take time out of your day to enjoy the little things in life, the things that really matter. Connect with yourself and keep the to do list and, “What ifs,” out of your mind, for a little while anyway. Enjoy time with friends and family and don’t forget the true spirit of the season.
